31st Conference on Priorities in Perinatal Care in Southern Africa Protea Hotel Kruger Gate, Mpumalanga 6-9 March 2012 FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT The 31st Conference on Priorities in Perinatal Care will be held at Protea Hotel Kruger Gate from 6-9 March 2012. PH Kruger Gate is situated only 100m from the Paul Kruger entrance to the Kruger National Park on the banks of the Sabie River. Game drives into the Kruger National Park from the hotel or you can visit the park at your own convenience in your own vehicle. Workshops Anonymous have been appointed by the Priorities Executive Committee to organise the conference and will work in close co-operation with the committee. The chairperson of the committee is Prof Eckhart Buchmann. Invited Guest Speaker(s): The Priorities in Perinatal Care Association is proud to announce the following invited guest speaker: Prof Robert Goldenberg MD is Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Director of Research in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Drexel College of Medicine in Philadelphia, USA. He is also a professor of public health and preventive medicine. More information on other guest speakers to follow. Workshops: Workshops on relevant topics, will be held as parallel sessions at the venue for full conference delegates only (not day delegates - unless otherwise specified). Anyone interested in presenting a workshop at Priorities, please contact the organisers. Workshop topics to be announced once finalised. Delegates will be required to indicate what workshops they will be attending closer to the time as space is limited on a first-booked, first-served basis. Topics will include perinatal audit, maternal mortality, intrapartum hypoxia, appropriate technology for neonatal care, neonatal resuscitation, preterm delivery, HIV/AIDS, antenatal care, intrapartum care and research that investigates post-discharge neonatal deaths and postnatal follow up of newborns, with or without reference to the linking of PPIP and ChIP data. Emphasis for oral presentations will again be placed on studies that are attempting to solve identified problems. Research from rural and district hospitals will be especially welcome. Only abstracts including results of completed studies will be accepted as oral presentations. Continuing education topics (lectures) and advocacy presentations will not be accepted, except by invitation. Cost: Fully inclusive rate, including registration, 3 night’s accommodation and all meals from Tuesday lunch up to and including Friday lunch, is R6200 per person for single accommodation in one-bedroom hotel rooms, R5000 per person sharing in one-bedroom hotel rooms (you will be sharing a bedroom and a bathroom). Bus transport will be arranged from OR Tambo (Jhb) International Airport (+ 5-6 hours one way) to the venue and back at an estimated cost of R800 for a single or return trip, or from Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (Nelspruit) approximately 1 hour from the venue at an estimated cost of R350 for a single or return trip, although these prices may change (group rate only). Please note that registration will close on 17 February 2012, all payments and completed registration forms to reach the organisers before then. No late registrations or payments accepted after deadline date. A limited number of bursaries will be available to registrars, doctors-, neonatal nurses- or midwives in training based in South Africa who have a paper accepted for oral presentation. Preference is given to people from rural areas. The bursary covers registration and accommodation costs (shared accommodation only). Bursaries DO NOT cover transport costs to Priorities.
